Ok, thought it was time to have a thread for the ENV2. Seems like there is more than a few of us that have this phone. Maybe we can post tricks and tips for each other.
I'll start...grin!
When you receive a txt, you can listen to it via the front. Once you unguard your phone, hit ok again, then hit the pound key and the txt will be read out.
Another tip, is on the front of the phone, the down key of the circle is a shortcut to your messenging, and the upside is a shortcut to your contacts.
If anyone finds the area to set ringtones for restricted call, please post here. I can't find it anywhere.
Well I haven't seen anything to do with Restricted Calls. But I can also tell you that if you hold down pound or z, you can switch easily between vibrate and normal modes on the fly.
Wow. Awesome topic. Can't wait to get my phone.
Hey, I'm going to get a new phone from Verizon soon and I'm considering the LG ENV2, but I have some questions about it. I am wondering if you can add your contacts independently? And how much can the phone read? I have other questions, but can't think of them right now. I also looked at the Samson flip shot and it's a really cool phone as well, it doesn't have a keyboard like the LG ENV2, but it does read a lot to you and has a great camera. This phone also reads texts to you and I think, but I'm not sure exactly, but it might also have the ability for you to voice your text messages instead of typing them.
Yes, you can add your own contacts completely by yourself. It reads a lot to you, seems like it goes a menu or 2 deeper. I'm not sure how to explain it. What phone do you currently have?
I also like the feature...
Open the phone, left softkey for messenging, then right softkey for options. Top to bottom, erase inbox, erase sent, erase drafts, erase all. Hit ok on which one your want, a great way to keep the messenging area tidy!
Grin, I tried to see if it would read out the sent messages, but no such luck...smile! Might as well erase, no need to keep them.
BTW, for low vision people, I love how the text is light color on a dark background. Quite nice to read small amounts with a magnifier.
Oh and if you go to phone settings, voice commands, call alerts, you can change how the phone responds when you receive a call or message. The three optons don't talk but from top to bottum they are: Ring only, speech and ring, and speech only witch just makes it repeat who is calling.
Personally, I hate phones that come out of the box, promising you all this accessibility. Blaaaaaaa!!! I'd rather have Talks. I remember having the LG5600 or something like that, and I hated it. Couldn't send texts, couldn't see my recieved calls, couldn't go deeper in the mens--only the first two leverls or so were accessible. It turely sucked!!! Now i have Talks installed on my Nokia N75, and I love it!!! The only think I hate about te phone is that there's this button on the side of the phone that pops out your Sim-card. Another one is inside the batery compartment, and when you drop the phone, your batery cover somes off, and the batery goes flying. other than that, it's a good, solid piece of equipment, and I'd recomend it to anoyone!!! Talks is $350, but well worth the money. It uses Elaquence, thesynthisizer used in JAWS. It's very easy to use, too. PM me if you want to know more about Talks. Sorry, iI haven't had anything to do with Mobiel Speak or Pocket Hal.
I agree with the previous poster
I also agree that it would be great to have a fully accessible phone, but at this time, is not the right time to spending $250 to $400 once I buy the phone and start a new contract.
I spent $32, received 2 phones in under 24 hours, and both of them are very accessible. I love my ENV2. I can txt both ways, create and modify my contacts, change many settings, create my own ringtones and save to them to my phone, and more I haven't discovered. Brilliant deal for only $16!
Mobile speak and a fully accessible phone will come some day, but not right now. smile
lol Nope. No talks or mobilespeaks for me. It's silly to spend so much for a phone when the env2 can do just about all I need a phone to do. But this is just my oppinion. I wanted a phone that could send and receive text messages and this phone seems to do it as far as I can tell so I don't really want to shell out that kind of money. But it's cool for those who have such a program for their phone.
I have the first samson, I don't like it it isn't accessible at all. Wait you can create ring tones on the lg ENV2, I thought you could only put mp3's on your phone, I didn't think that any phone except those with Mobielspeak from Verizon could do that. If this is so, do you have to buy them from Verizon or can you create them from mp3's you already have on your computer.
You can create them from mp3's on your computer, then send it as a pix message, save as ringtone.
I know I created this as an ENV2 thread, but I have a side note...
Did you all know that the samsung gleam does the same sort of stuff? Reads out the txt messages?
I'm still in my 30-day trial, so I'm going to scope it out today; see if I like it better than the ENV2. I'll post more later.
Nah, don't think I like it better. I didn't like the inner keypad much and it isn't really worth spending some more money on top of my ENV2. If people are interested, the text to speech is a bit different, and I think it'll read out the txt messages differently. I had a hard time hearing in the store, but I think it was going to tell me the time I received the message, not sure if it would have told me the sender. Also, there is no additional key to press to have the txt message read out, just hit ok and it reads it automaticly.
I agree with post 11. I think mobile speak is awesome, but right now, I don't have the money, and the ENV does what I need it to do. I'm happy!
I just got the env and I love it. I had the gream but this phone does so much more. yes you can add your contacts completely on your own. The keyboard talks as you type each letter and that's handy. So how do you send an mp3 from your computer to your phone? I'm curious.
You need to edit your mp3 to under 30 seconds and probably keep it under 150kb. I think my largest is 172kb, but I didn't care, I love the song...smile! I also edit the sound, sample rate, and the bit rate.
Once you have a ringer you like, email it to yournumber@vzwpix.com
You'll receive a message on your phone, hit ok to listen to it, the right soft key, then 4, I believe save as ringtone, then ok. That should do it.
Out of curiosity, how does the env2 do more than the gleam?
The Samsung flipshot is another one that does the text message read out.
Hey all, I am not sure if any of you can answer this question, but do you know if the samson flipshot also has the capability to creat ring tones by sending them to your phone as a pix message like the Env2? If anyone can be of any help that would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get all the information about both phones to decide which phone does more including which phone reads mmore of the menues and stuff like that. I know I already asked this, but does anyone know for sure if the flipshot has the ability for you to voice your text messages instead of typing them? I'm not sure, but I think the person at the verizon store told me it could, but I'd really appreciate some clarification. In advance thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Kat
As far as sending the ringtone via vzwpix, my guess is yes. It seems like a pretty common feature. My parents Motorola adventure evens lets you.
Voicing your txt messages? That is pretty cool, I haven't heard of that one. I've heard about sending voice messages, but they are extra, not included in the ordenary messaging plans.
Keep posting if you find out the flipshot reads deeper than the ENV2. The gleam didn't seem to.
Hey cool! I was just playing around, setting a pic as wallpaper, and the ENV2 read more than the 8300 did. I was in my pix and chose my picture, hit 2 for set as, then the ENV2 started speaking again.
Sheesh, how do they decide what will speak and what won't. I can't imagine a sighted person driving along and thinking, let's set my wallpaper and try to keep our eyes on the road.
BTW everyone, I'm trying to figure the right person to contact; vzw or lg. I want to see about future software updates and the return of ringer ID for restricted calls, and individual txt alerts. These features would also help the sighted driver. Here in the state of WA, it is hands free phone all the way while driving.
So, if you have advice or contact details, I'd appreciate them.
omg I'm so disappointed now. I've got sprint and our contract ends in november so we were looking at verizon for the ENV2 phone. We've gotta pay $800 deposit for 2 lines cause we have such bad credit. That's not including the costs of the 2 phones which is $200 for the 2 phones. We can upgrade the phone with sprint to get the moto q9c and the phone will cost us $200 per phone but I'd still have to buy talks or mobilespeaks on the side and I heard it's really expensive. I don't even know if we need to buy 2 coppies cause we want 2 phones. I'm not quite sure what I should do now. lol Sprint is cheaper but verizon has better service. I don't mind having sprint and would love verizon but it'll cost me a grand just to get it. The frustrations of those of us with bad credit.
hisenthusiasticlova, do you run across the same problems, if you start a new line of service via wirefly or letstalk? Maybe they would be another solution for you guys. Or cartoys? If qwest is in your area, I think they are moving over to the vzw network.
Does sprint have text to speach phones, similar to the ENV2? Samsung also offers text to speach options. Lastly, have you checked out the samsung ace? I guess it is another that support mobile speak.
Good luck with your decision. I can see why you'd like to move over to vzw, I've heard sprint's network isn't that strong.
Just learned something new.
When your inside messenging, press left softkey and that brings up settings. There is all sorts in there, and most everything is spoken. One of the settings is to have the text message automatically readout.
Any other tips from ENV2 users?
Has anyone listened to music on this phone? So far, I'm not impressed with that part of it. I miss my 8300 for the music.
OMg, have you all noticed the go to menu? The list is huge! It is in alphibetical order and includes nearly everything. Very cool!
Gosh. I just got the enV2 and this board is great. Some tips that might help. 1. There is a braill manual via LG that you can get. It's not tops, but it is okay to learn the tricks and how to find stuff on the phone. 2. If I wanted info I think I'd ask both LG and Verizon, but Verizon seems to be helpful exstreamly. 3. Yes the phones with Talx and Mobile speaks are more costly, for a few more tricks, so at 99 in my case I thought the enV was a great deal. I had AT&T before, but stayed with the plain non speaking phone because I didn't want to spend 3 to 4 hundred to have my phone talk. Love the voice commands and you can send voice message with that, so you don't have to type so much. Lol. I believe putting some mini dots on the F and J like on your computer keyboard would be helpful while typing these love letters. Lol This is my first talking phone, so I'm impressed. Keep the info coming and I'll do the same. Oh got the manual in 3 days. I called on a Friday, and Monday morning it was at my door, so that smokes for such stuff.
Later.
Forgot to ask has anyone tried the VZ nav system? My brother braggs I can simply put my address into the phone and walk and it will tell me were to go. With GPS systems for the blind costing several gran this is great, don't you think? I've not signed up to pay the $10 extra to use it, so haven't had it work for me. Were I live I know were I'm going, but maybe to never get lost again, or maybe to get lost might be worth it? Lol Also on the contacts I know they can be added directly, but if you sign up for My Verizon you get the mobile backup free, so you simply can update your contacts with your computer and they'll go to the phone, or if you update on the phone it keeps your list online, so nice. Prove your blind Verizon gives you free information calls. Some providers only give you up to a set price, such as $15 worth before you have to pay the 1.340 per question. I sometimes ask many, so free is nicer.
Okay tell me something. Lol
I think you can try the vz navigater free for 30-days. You aughta, then let us know...lol!
Have you signed up for the backup assistant yet? I thought about doing it, because having a contact list online is pretty cool, but I can't be bothered so far. I'd need to get help or go to the store to have them download the ap on my phone.
Hey, have y'all noticed they have changed the rules about data usage? It use to be, you could go onto get-it-now and listen to content without a charge, except for minutes used. Now, depending on your plan, you are charged for data usage. No matter if you buy or not! Sort of a rip, I think! What if we accidently hit mobile web or VCast? Then depending on our plan, we are charged for that mistake. Hmmm, I should look into disabling those features, AKA inaccessible annoyances...lol!
Glad you like the phone! I'm really enjoying mine!
hi there,
i'm thinking of getting the env2 and hope it wil tell me all i need to do with the info of the phone.
i might put dots on the f,and j keys, and hope i wil like it .
i can get it for 10 dollars with a 2 yr contact.
wel thanks, and wil read this board again when i get the phone.
thanks,
ff
Has anyone bought a nice case for the ENV2 yet? I've been looking, but nothing has grabbed me so far.
If you're saving a ringtone and you want to save it, can you just hit the 4 on the keyboard, or do you have to arrow down. Taht menu doesn't talk for me.
You can hit the 4 on the keyboard.s
Does anyone know if sprint has a version of the enV2? Are there any other accessible sprint phones worth buying?
Ah cases. I just keep mine in my pocket, or if i'm going away for the weekend I've got a bag with one of these cell phone pouches on it. Keeps it safe, and near my hand. Getting ready to get the Jabra 3030 Bluetooth headset, and the SD card, so should be able to listne to some tunes. 8 GB though? Naw 1 is fine for me. :) Now with my plan I don't get charged fore data usage, so maybe have a chat with them. You sign up online for that mobile backup it's free, so you save the 1.99 and it's way easier adding contacts from a really keyboard. hahahaha. So far it rocks, even without everything talking. You just need a bit of direction and you can do it all. Verizon is great about helping you. I guess there charging different prices for the phone in different markets. $10? I wish I had to pay 99 and I have good credit and had to take it for 2 years, so wow. Should have traveled else were, or looked on Amazon or something, but I got excited. Lol.
Okay who can put a ringtone on a contact without messing up? Tell me the magic. I can get it sometimes, but it's tricky.
Tell me something!
You can put a ringtone on a contct using the voice comands system or the right soft key on the contact and editing them. but with the voice commands system, its accessible. Now. This is done from the enV so idk how different its gonna be if any difference. I have not saw any differences with the AVR so far in some of the LGS accept you know, the texting. Ok. To add a ringtone to a contact you go to lookup name with the arrow keys or when your prompted to say a conmmand just say lookup. It then prompts you please choose. Your chouces are, create new, earase and, modify. If you've got the contact in stored in the phone allready then say or navigate to modify and it prompts you for a name or a phone number. say the name or phone number as you are prompted and then give it about 5 seconds and arrow done to ringtone and hit the left soft key and set the ringtone. I do think you might need to choose, my sounds or my ringtones but my rigtones should be first on the list to just go aehad and hit the ok key in the middle of your arow keys. If i have made any mistakes on this at all, such as typing or gramatical or spelling, sorry, its not my thing. Hope this was helpfull. any other questions about that, just ask and i'll get back to ya if somene else doesn't before me.
When you set a ringtone as a contact id does it speak the contact for you?
yes tdoes indeed speak the contact fof ya
I'm gonna try this. If it works hats off. Lol. Love this phone. Wish is made coffee though. :)
Tell me something!
oh okay, have a question, I was wondering can you erase your own miss calls, Text messages and all that good stuff?
yes you can erase it. if you just wanna erase them buy category just go to the missed calls or dailed calls or recieved calls or, if ya just wanna erase them all go to all and hit your right soft key and then press up on the keypad 2 times and hit ok twice.
oh ok thanks. I am going to try that.
This phone is awesome. Smile grin. Now my sister can't look at my text messages. the gleam wouldn't let you irrace things. I needed sighted assistance for that.
If I want to erase text I open the phone hit the left soft key, then phone says messaging. Then I hit the right soft key and the phone says options and scroll through to what I want . Hit the okay key as he says twice. Now the call history, I open the phone, hit the okay button and my phone says Media ccenter I scrool up to recent calls hit the right soft key go to what I want to erase and hit okay once then I listen to the beeps tell it goes to the last one then go up twice and do the okay thing. Lol. I'm going to try the other method too.
Smokes. Now on my question on the ringtones the only problem I have with that is I can't hear the ringtone I want to use, meaning I can't preview it, so I have to count them, am I doing it wrong?
I'm going to add the SD card tomorrow 4 GB worth, and learn how the music section works. It's suppose to be accessible completely by simply hitting the music key. Do you experts agree? What do you think about the stereo Bluetooth headsets? I'm wondering if the sound quality is really good for music. I'll try the Jabra PT 3030 I believe it's called, and LG has one for the phone as well, so I'll use Verizons good nature and test them on that 30 day plan, but what do you guys think?
Tell me something. .
Hey, wait a sec... Where is the music key? I never new there was one. So far, I am not liking the music side of the phone. If y'all have any tips, please share them!
I love how I can hit the voice command key and say, go-to all calls. Then right soft key, up arrow twice, ok ok; ta-da, erased!
OOOH! The music key! Baby! MMM!
Okay sense you are missing the best part of this wonderful toy I'll hook you up. You've given me some great stuff too. Okay you close the phone and the music key will be the left soft key. You must get an SD card though and you can download the music management program from the Verizon wireless site. The phone will hold up to 8 GB, but I choose only 4. I'm not going to be watching a movie, videos and gaming, so music is all I've got on it. When you download the program it works with Windows media player and the phone becomes a drive, or storage place just like say your CD drive or whatever. You can add files to the SD card either by purchasing the USB cable, and program for 19.95, or just using the sleeve that will come with the SD card in your card reader if you have one on your PC. Files can be MP3 WMA and such, so most will play except protected ones unless you sign up for
Rhapsody. Once your SD card is in the phone, the slot is on the bottom fromt if your looking at it with the phone open, or on the right bottom side under the headset jack if the phone is closed, your music button works. You press it once then get to the okay key press it once, then again and your music plays just like any MP3 player. Want to skip songs press up or down and it moves.
Now depending on how you get the music on the phone either using the card reader, or the USB cable matters how you do it. I use the USB cable, because the SD card is small, so just best left in the phone after you get it snapped in there. Plug the phone up open your media player press sink music on the phone under Media center, then music and tones. You'll hear it start sinking. If you understand how to use media player totransfer files then your set. If not just ask me I'll be happy to share, but i'll need you on Skype or something.
Coolness. I was cheap and got a wired stereo headset company Universal. Verizon has it. I was told the Bluetooths aren't as good sound wise for music. Skullcandy cells some good ones too, and they have one that you can use any earphones whith.
Okay I've written a novel.
Tell me something!
Cooool! Thanks for the info!
One thing I don't get is why my music doesn't begin at track one...lol! Wouldn't it be nice, if we could hit the number keypad to correspond with the track number?
Explain what you mean. I'll bet it's the way you ripped it into your media player. You can fix that there. Explain now. hahaha
Tell me something?
I looked at the LG NV when it was out, as I'm not yet up for a new contract. I do not like how bolky it is. I don't have anyone that i text, never had it before. Besides, due to my hearing impairment i cannot understand mobilespeak, it is not elaquince. Also, in regards to gettin a phone that works with Talks and works with the T coil of my hearing aid, that does not exist.
Nokia has phones that work with talks, and other phones that work with Hearing aids. There is not a phone as of yet that is compatibal for the hearing impaired and works with talks also.
The phones that work with the T coils of hearing aids are not simbyin OS. The Sinbyin bassed phones do not have anything that works with hearing aids, unless you were to get a loop to plug into the bottom of the phone. I remember havin a loop with my older phone before the LG, and I didn't like having to have wires 'round my neck constently.
Has this changed any since 2006? That's when I last looked at a new phone, and different contract so I could get talks.
If you look at Verizon's LG 5400, it says right on the specs on Verizon Wireless:
• Hearing Aid Compatibility = M4/T4
the URL is:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3365&changingCompletedOrder=
The one thing i've always liked about LG phones from Verizon is that they are compatibal for the hearing impaired, IE they work well with hearing aids. I'm thinkin 'bout gettin the LG 5400 next, if its still available in January. I have the LG 5300 currently. Does the 5400 read text?
John
As far as I know, the 5400 doesn't read text. If you're not a big texter, you have quite a number of possibilities. So many of the vzw models have the advance voice commands. I believe there is a ruggid motorola model out there, that has a high hearing impaired rating and it has voice commands. Also check out some samsong models, or the lg chocolate, or the lg 8350.
Yes Verizon has several nice phone for the hearing impaired. Plus you can test it for 30 days, so use that option to see what is best for you. The InV2 is suppose to be good to use with your hearing aid, but I can't say. It has this in the specs, so test them to learn what you like. You can also do some testing in the store.
can you set your alarm clack with the env2?
No.
I was trying last night, and it is impossible! Well, not impossible, but not for me. *smile*
I gotta say the ENV 2 looks good for the most part. However here is a tip for those of you wanting Talks or Mobile Speak. Verizon has a deal where you can get talks (only for the phones that are part of the promotions currently i believe a motorolla q 9) for a one time fee of $99. Att has a deal where you can get your choice of mobile speak sindian or mobile speak smart phone (for windows mobile based phones), once again only for the phones as part of the promotion for $89. If you get a Windows mobile smart phone its a one time fee if you get an sindian based phone (usually nokia) its a per phone charge i believe they said. I would advise you guys to go to your respected cariers website and look around for the disability link for more info, and also to see if tmobile and sprint may have similiar deals. Oh and as i found out this weekend your best deal for phones wil usually be online whether through the cariers website or through a 3rd party dealier. but once you get one of the compatible phones that apart of the promotion from else where you can still add talks or mobile speak respectively for the promotional price.
just so people are aware the lg ENV3 was released a couple of weeks ago. I am thinking about getting it because my contract is allmost up with Sprint and i have not found a talking accessible phone with them.
